Here's What I'd Tell My Past Self After Leaving Corporate Life

We’re in a season where a lot feels uncertain. Layoffs, restructures, and the rise of AI are shifting roles in almost every industry.

If you're feeling the weight of “what does the future bring? WTH is next?”—you are not alone. And if you’re quietly dreaming about a different way forward—even if it terrifies you—you’re definitely not alone.

Here’s something I believe (even though I still have to remind myself often): when something gets stripped away, it’s making space for something more aligned. Something more meant for you.

Five years ago, I left my corporate job at L'Oreal. It was 100% my choice—but that didn’t make it easy. Even when you're the one initiating the change, it doesn’t mean the aftermath is smooth sailing.

It felt like learning a whole new way of living—no more back-to-back meetings, no more urgent emails... and a lot more silence. That stillness was loud. And uncomfortable. And honestly? It made me question my worth.

So I’ve been reflecting on that version of me—and if I could sit down with her, here’s what I’d tell her:

All that time is going to feel weird (and scary) at first.
You’re coming off seven years of constant go-go-go. Having time will feel unfamiliar—but you’re safe. You’re okay. And this is what you asked for.

It’s safe to charge for your work.
It’s not selfish. It’s not greedy. Your work changes lives—and you’re building a business, not running a charity.

You don’t need to figure it all out today.
The website, the offers, the tech—it’ll all come together. Focus on the transformation you’re here to guide people through. The rest will follow.

Stay connected.
Find your people—the expanders, mentors, and peers who remind you what’s possible. Don’t isolate in the hard moments.

These are reminders I return to again and again. For myself, and for the amazing humans I coach.
