I’ve Fallen off Track, But Here’s what I’ve Learned

How to Embrace Life’s Shifts Without Falling Into the Shame Spiral

Life can feel overwhelming when our routines shift. Since moving back to Mexico City from northern Michigan in late October, I’ve noticed a few changes:

  • Fallen off my daily Tarot Card Pull & Journaling Practice

  • Paused producing and posting daily Instagram Content

  • Reduced my movement practice to maybe 3 times per week (honestly, closer to 2)

  • Slept through my alarm this morning and missed a yoga class I was supposed to teach

If you’ve been here before, you know how quickly a shame spiral can start. It’s easy to wonder why we’re not “keeping up” with our past selves or worry that we’ve lost touch with the habits that once felt grounding.

But here’s the thing: shame literally shuts down the brain's learning centers. That’s why I’ve learned to replace judgment with kindness and curiosity. Let me walk you through the steps I take to navigate these moments and reconnect with myself.

4 Steps to Realign When Life Feels Out of Balance

  1. Pause and Acknowledge
Instead of rushing to fix things or berating myself, I take a moment to pause. I name what’s happening without judgment—just a simple, “This is where I am right now.”

  2. Ask Gentle Questions
I ask myself questions like, What do I need right now? or What is this experience trying to show me? These questions help me approach the moment with curiosity, not criticism.

  3. Reframe the Story
Falling off track doesn’t erase progress—it’s an invitation to recalibrate and realign. It’s part of being human.

  4. Choose One Small Step
I look for a manageable action to take today to feel more connected to myself. It could be as simple as pulling a single Tarot card or moving my body for five minutes.

For me today, it was writing this post for you, hoping you can relate and take something from it.

What Took the Place of My Old Habits?

When I reflect on what replaced the practices I had last month, I see growth in unexpected places:

  • Exploring Human Design: I’ve been immersing myself in a certification program and brainstorming ways to integrate it into my business. This new layer of knowledge excites me.

  • Spending Time with Family: More time with my nieces and nephew has brought me joy and reminded me of what truly matters.

  • Creating New Offerings: I’m developing a mini-course to help others create powerful career shifts—a project that feels deeply aligned with my purpose.

  • Engaging in Meaningful Conversations: I recently attended a roundtable on decolonizing coaching practices, which challenged me to reflect deeply and approach my work more responsibly.

Why Kindness and Curiosity Matter

When routines shift, it’s tempting to let the shame spiral take over. It feels automatic and familiar, but it rarely leads to meaningful action. Instead, acknowledging small wins—like asking yourself a kind question or taking one intentional step—keeps you connected to your progress.

So, what’s one small win you can celebrate today? Whether it’s pausing for reflection or showing up for yourself in the smallest way, every step matters.
